At the Handmade Kitchen Company, we design, manufacture and install exceptional, bespoke kitchens, and cabinetry for other rooms.
Each Handmade Kitchen project is designed with you in mind. We use time-honoured traditional methods of construction, aligned with your choice of classic Shaker, modern in-frame or handleless cabinetry.
Our aim is to deliver luxury handmade kitchens that will delight, impress and amaze you for years to come.

Every kitchen is hand-built in our own Essex workshop and installed by our team of skilled joiners.
We work in classic in-frame Shaker, modern in-frame and handleless cabinetry, hand-painted in any colour you choose. Solid hardwood, dovetail-jointed drawers, premium hardware from Armac Martin and Perrin & Rowe, and the finest cooking and refrigeration appliances from Sub-Zero & Wolf, all combine to deliver luxury handmade kitchens that are made to measure and built to last.

a family affair
Two generations,one workshop
Founded by Nicholas Bridger in 1999, the company remains a true family affair. Daughter Billie leads the design studio, daughter-in-law Paige looks after client relations, and son Louis oversees each installation personally.

In our Essex workshop, timber is still worked the slow way: sawn, jointed, beaded and painted by the same pairs of hands, start to finish.

Doors set within solid timber frames, precisely as the great English cabinet makers intended. Built to whatever dimension your home demands: there are no set sizes here.

Solid Brass Ironmongery
The jewellery of the kitchen. Hinges, handles and latches in solid brass from Armac Martin and Perrin & Rowe, chosen piece by piece.

Hand-Painted by Brush
Never sprayed. Layer upon layer, applied by brush for a depth of finish and a surface that can be refreshed for generations, in any colour you can imagine.

Visit us at our beautiful Bridgers Barn showroom. We've recently updated our displays for the start of 2026. Our barn is located very conveniently near Bishop's Stortford and the M11.
We have all the latest trends on display, from convenient storage solutions to walk-in pantries and wine rooms. Come and view our growing range of bespoke bedroom and study furniture, alongside the very best refrigeration and cooking appliances available from Sub-Zero & Wolf, where we have the largest selection of fully functional appliances in the area.

At the Handmade Kitchen Company, we have been crafting the finest bespoke furniture for more than twenty-five years. Every kitchen we lovingly produce is the culmination of our client's inspiration, entwined with our design-led philosophy and time-honoured manufacturing techniques, resulting in furniture that is truly bespoke.

A bespoke kitchen features an unrestricted design, with a choice of materials, styles, finishes, colour and design elements, all centred around your own personal requirements. Common challenges faced by our clients, for example by the property's walls, listed status or others, can only be overcome by a truly bespoke kitchen.

We work with you to deliver the colours and desired level of finish you envisage for your furniture. By employing an exhaustive palette, any colour chosen by you can be incorporated into the design of your new furniture.

Utilising the latest design and storage trends, in combination with our own innovations, our bespoke cabinets are handmade from the best possible materials, with solid wood, dovetail jointed drawers. We employ premium hardware including the latest soft close drawer runners and mechanisms, and offer the finest door and drawer furniture from companies such as Armac Martin and Perrin & Rowe.

We offer a unique selection of appliances from what we consider the world's leading corporations, providing you access to award-winning global manufacturers, whose appliances, whilst renowned for their innovative technology, quality and style, are also utilised extensively by the world's greatest chefs in their Michelin-starred kitchens.

We offer a personal service to our clients. We do not have a call centre. The person you speak to by phone or email will be one of our team, and you will probably meet them in person when you drop into our showroom for a cup of our fabulous coffee! You can coordinate through a single point of contact, but you can also engage with our Directors, Designers and Project Delivery team throughout the process, as you wish.

We have a 25+ year heritage in handmade cabinetry. Since 1999 we have built on and drawn from the extensive experience of both our founder and the time-honoured skills of our master craftsman, to ensure we provide only furniture of the finest quality for our clients. Today we continue to diversify our offering throughout whole home cabinetry.

A genuinely bespoke kitchen is designed and built around your home rather than adapted from standard units. Every cabinet, drawer and detail is hand-made in our Essex workshop to your exact space, style and way of living, from dovetail-jointed drawers to hand-painted finishes.
Most projects take around 12 to 16 weeks from design sign-off to installation, depending on the size and complexity of the kitchen. We will give you a clear timeline at the design stage so you know what to expect at each point.
We design and install bespoke kitchens across Hertfordshire, Essex, Cambridgeshire, Buckinghamshire and London. Our showroom is in Bishop's Stortford, and clients are welcome to visit by appointment.
Yes. Our kitchens are hand-painted by brush for a depth of finish spray simply cannot match, using premium paints from Farrow & Ball, Little Greene and others. You can choose any colour to suit your home.
We do. Alongside kitchens we craft walk-in pantries, utility rooms, boot rooms, wine rooms, media walls, dressing rooms and home studies, all built by the same team to the same standard.
