What are the key elements of my Handmade Classic Shaker Kitchen?

Sink: Your choice of ceramic farmhouse/butler style sink or a stainless steel undermounted style.
Worktop: Your choice of a maintenance-free Quartz, natural solid wood, a combination of Quartz & Wood, Granite or Corian. We can provide hundreds of options for you to choose from, with differing styles on display in our showroom alongside many additional samples for you to select. Provision can be made to accommodate the latest motorised or soft-close recessed style power options and we will precision cut any apertures required for hobs and associated appliances within worksurfaces.
Furniture: Traditionally crafted mortice and tenon jointed doors, dove tail drawer boxes. Doors with optional soft-close or traditional butt hinges, drawer boxes on soft close runners. The choice of a plain front frame or traditional half round cock bead fitted to the frame around each door & drawer.
Carcasses: Our carcasses are traditionally constructed from the most durable materials. Our drawers are typically manufactured in oak, with dove tail joints. Alternate materials, such as Walnut or Birch are available on request, as we offer a truly bespoke service.
Storage: This can be built to your specification to be highly practical – Doors can be set on drawer boxes, especially useful under your sink. The option to have an internal draw inside a deeper front drawer is also popular with our clients. Further storage elements can be created to fulfil your specific requirements.
Paint: Your choice of colour in a quality durable paint.

Classic Shaker Kitchens: Frequently Asked Questions

What is a classic Shaker kitchen?

A classic Shaker kitchen takes the Shaker tradition (simple, honest joinery and proportion) and dresses it with traditional detailing: an in-frame five-piece door, a half-round cock-bead mould running around each door and drawer, butt hinges or soft-close concealed hinges and a hand-painted finish. The look sits comfortably in period houses, listed cottages, Georgian homes and Edwardian villas, as well as in newer properties where you want a softer, more characterful kitchen.

What is the difference between classic, modern and traditional Shaker?

Classic Shaker is in-frame and hand-painted with cock-bead detailing. Modern Shaker uses the same five-piece door but loses the in-frame frontage and the cock-bead for a cleaner, simpler look, often in monochrome colour pairings. Traditional Shaker goes further again, with deeper mouldings, decorative pilasters, plate racks, dressers and a fuller country-house aesthetic.

Are your classic Shaker kitchens in-frame?

Yes. Every classic Shaker kitchen we build is constructed in-frame, with mortice and tenon jointed doors, hardwood dovetail-jointed drawers and hand-painted finishes. We do not make flat-pack kitchens.

What paint colours can I choose?

Any colour you like. We hand-paint in Farrow & Ball, Little Greene, Paint & Paper Library, Sanderson, Dulux and Crown, and we can colour-match almost any specification. Many clients pick one colour for the perimeter cabinetry and a contrasting accent (often a darker shade) for the island.

How long does a bespoke classic Shaker kitchen take?

Most kitchens take twelve to sixteen weeks from final design sign-off, with installation itself typically two to three weeks on site. Listed buildings or major renovations can take longer, and we will plan dates around your wider building programme.

Where do you install classic Shaker kitchens?

Our Bridgers Barn showroom is in Great Hallingbury near Bishop's Stortford. We regularly install classic Shaker kitchens across Essex, Hertfordshire and north London, with occasional projects further afield in Cambridge and the wider Home Counties. Recent Hertfordshire and north London projects have included homes in Hadley Wood, Berkhamsted, Hemel Hempstead, Rickmansworth and Elstree.
